We watched the movie, Penleope this weekend. It is a modern day fairytale with the perfect amounts of charm and whimsy.
I love the motto of the story:
"It's not the power of the curse, it's the power you give the curse."

new ride
I picked up my new ride on Friday, and I love it. It is a 2008 Saab 9-3 SportCombi, and it is zippy!
I do miss my old car a little though...poor little Saaby. I haven't named the new car yet, any suggestions?

nothingness
I got nothin' today.
No clever words.
No great stories.
No pretty things.
No inspiring thoughts.
What inspires you?
Help!

fun with art
I discovered the work of Matte Stephens today, and I absolutely adore it. His work is very modern and inspired.
So many choices, so little wall space. Visit his Etsy shop here.

art glass
I adore the work of Paul Houseberg, a renowned glass artist. I was introduced to his work last year by this hot local architect, who had the good fortune of having one of Paul's art installations in his building. If only I could figure out how to get one of those at 123 house.
See more of Paul Houseberg's portfolio here.

under the covers
When covers of songs are done well, they can be even sweeter the second or third time around. Here are a few of my favorites. What are yours?

Sexual Healing by Ben Harper
How Deep is Your Love by The Bird and The Bee
Last Kiss by Pearl Jam

wise one
I have three wisdom teeth. Notice that I said "have", as in they are still with me. When most people were having their wisdom teeth removed years ago, mine had not descended and weren't ready to come out. I kind of hoped that would always be the case.
This week one of them poked through. Well, hello! I imagine he (and his two little cohorts) won't be with me too much longer, but I am hoping that he can offer me some wisdom and enlightenment during his stay.

picky
I was thrilled when I saw a listing for local apple picking a couple of weeks ago. I miss the apple picking in Canada where I grew up. I took for granted that it was always there.
Yesterday Josh and I set out for Wasatch Mountain State Park for our big adventure. I was seriously so excited! I had big plans for pies, crumbles and other autumnal creations.
We had a lovely drive and visit, but the "orchard" (all 30 trees) had been overpicked, and all that remained were sad little apples rotting underneath the trees. We didn't get one apple to put in out fancy State Park paper bag. Boo!
Tomorrow I will brave the grocery store where a bountiful selection of apples await.

I tried a new color on my toes this week, although the decision was tough after I discovered La Collection de France by OPI. Parlez-vous OPI? was the final call and I love it.

special event
Our little monster has a birthday coming up this weekend. Every year I like to buy him a few nice new things to celebrate. The truth is, there is nothing I could ever give to him that could begin to show my gratitude for all he has brought into my life.
My dear blog friend Bee, from The Lil Bee inspired me to do something different this year. In honor of Henri's 4th birthday, I will donate $5 for every comment left on this post to the Humane Society of Utah. Please leave a comment before midnight this Sunday and help the little fellows out.

Inspired my my friend Tina over at Wildflours (again), I am giving some thought to building a modern gingerbread house this year. I have wanted to do this for a long time, and I would love to enter a contest...does anyone know of any?

'spa'ctacular getaway
Tonight I decided to whisk myself off to Reykjavik, Iceland to check myself into the Blue Lagoon Spa in search of energy for life through natural sources. Caffeinated beverages just don't have the same effect they used to.
This is where I will be staying for the next couple of days...until I am ready to join the world again.
My room has twin beds...no time for hanky panky, this is about serious relaxation, I must have no distractions.
The view from my room is decent.
I'll start tomorrow bathing in the mineral rich geothermal seawater.
The rest of my day will be spent receiving treatments and reflecting on how I wish I was really here.
Please, join me lovelies.

you must stop
Dear Jonathan Adler,
I am ashamed to admit that I am watching the latest season of your show, Top Design. As an educated designer there is no excuse worthy of my behavior. I want you to know that I am dealing with this tragedy.
What I can not overcome is your new catch phrase, "j'adoreable". Please, please, stop. Help me make my sick addiction bearable.
See ya later decorator!

and then there were four
Twenty four years ago today, my youngest sister Tara came to us and completed our family, she was the missing piece to our puzzle.
Can you imagine having 9 toes, 364 days in a year, 49 states in the USA, or 11 eggs in your carton? That's what it would be like without her...it just wouldn't be right.
Tara has taught me a lot in life, I know I have more to learn from her. Our age difference has given our relationship unique dimension. She has made me laugh and cry, and she has always been there. She is a special soul, and I am so blessed to have her in my life.
Happy Birthday! I love you T-Rex.

I have a major problem with SCOPE CREEP.
I will often go out to do something, and start adding on. I don't plan it, it just happens. It makes it hard to focus and get the original task done. This drives Josh bonkers...oops.
